The Biosciences Area profiles Miaw-Sheue Tsai, a SULI mentor who works in the Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) Division as a research scientist. She leads a group that focuses on learning how cells identify and correct damaged DNA.
Berkeley Lab scientists have developed an all-season smart-roof coating that keeps homes warm during the winter and cool during the summer without consuming natural gas or electricity. Research findings reported in the journal Science point to a groundbreaking technology that outperforms commercial cool-roof systems in energy savings. Ronnen Levinson, ETA scientist and WD&E mentor, is […]
On December 15, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity will host a step-by-step Technical Assistance Webinar led by Leslie Fox, ORISE STEM Workforce Development Section Manager, Outreach and Engagement, and Igrid Gregory, ORISE STEM Workforce Development Group Manager, DOE Programs.
From holiday string lights to the bright sun in the sky, light is everywhere around us – but what really is light? Get all your questions about light answered by Berkeley Lab scientists Baishakhi Bose, Mayank Sabharwal, and Yu Gao during December’s After School Science Hour about the inner life of light. You’ll also get […]
An international team of researchers led by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and UC Berkeley have used a novel methodology combining remote sensing, machine learning, and terrestrial biosphere models to find that plants are photosynthesizing more now than previously. SULI mentor Trevor Keenan was the lead author of this study.
Office of Science will host a Webinar to HBCUs on December 10, 12:30-2:30 PM ET. The purpose is to share with the HBCUs community on the research and STEM training opportunities.
Deepika Awasthi, a SULI mentor and a biologist project scientist at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), has been featured on the newest installment of ‘Visible Spectrum.’
Join K-12’s team for their next Live Science on December 10th at 2pm PT to explore the intersection of beat-making and coding, with a focus on the beat machine and the origins of Boom Bap. There will also be an interactive session using EarSketch, a platform developed by Georgia Tech that uses code to create […]
Berkeley Lab researchers have zeroed in on the limitations of LPA development efforts and believe they have found a new path forward with optical fiber lasers. Cameron Geddes and Russel Wilcox, SULI mentors, are interviewed about their research.
Maurice Garcia-Sciveres, a SULI mentor, and Ramamoorthy Ramesh Berkeley Lab are designing new microchips that could perform better – and require less energy – than silicon. Over the next three years, they will lead two of the 10 projects recently awarded nearly $54 million by the Department of Energy to increase energy efficiency in microelectronics design and production.
