BLEND: Berkeley Lab Exploration of New Discoveries

Program Description

Each year, Berkeley Lab partners with select groups in the Bay Area on delivering experiences for high school, post-secondary students and faculty to visit the Lab, tour facilities, take part in STEAM activities, meet with scientists, and learn about career pathway opportunities.


Audience/Program Requirements

  • High school (grades 9-12) students from schools and educational programs in Alameda and Contra Costa counties​, Berkeley Lab's partner​​ districts​.
  • Under Represented Minority Organizations focused on STEM education (e.g. MESA, NSBE, SACNAS, or NABG chapters)
  • Students, faculty and staff at US community colleges or universities. 
  • A group must have a minimum of 12 students and a maximum of 32 students for a visit.
  • For high school groups, there must be at least 1 adult chaperone per 8 students. 
  • For community college and undergraduate groups, there is a maximum number of four faculty/program staff.

Groups whose students are not US citizens or enrolled in a US high school, community college, college or university must go through public tours to request a visit.

We focus on strengthening partnerships with Bay Area schools and organizations, although we accept partnership requests from any group throughout the year. We cannot guarantee that your group will be able to visit a specific facility upon request. To become a partner school or organization, please complete this interest form.
